How To Scan The QR Code When Setting Up Your iQ

This article explains how to scan the QR code on your Nextbase iQ Dash Cam during setup and gives step‑by‑step tips to fix scanning problems, such as bad angle, distance, or camera permission issues.

How to scan the QR code correctly

  1. Perform a dry install:

    • Temporarily place the iQ on your windscreen (without fully sticking it) to get the best angle.

    • Make sure the pendant section of the iQ is vertical and aligned with your phone’s camera.

  2. Keep your phone level:

    • Do not tilt your phone; hold it flat and parallel to the iQ screen so the camera can read the code cleanly.

  3. Use the right distance:

    • Start about 30 cm (1 foot) away from the Pendant and slowly move closer.

    • Some phone cameras struggle to focus very close up, so holding it a bit further away can help.

  4. Clean and prepare the surfaces:

    • Wipe your phone’s camera lens with a soft cloth to remove dust and smudges.

    • Remove the clear plastic film from the iQ pendant display to reduce glare.

  5. Allow camera permission:

    • When the app asks for camera access, choose Allow; if you deny it, you will not be able to scan the QR code.

What to do if the QR code still won’t scan

  • Move your phone camera slowly toward the QR code, then pull it back slightly; this helps the camera hunt for focus.

  • If it still fails or the iQ shows an error:

    • Power the iQ off, then turn it back on.

    • Force‑close the iQ app on your phone, then reopen it.

    • Repeat the scan from step 3.

Once the QR code is successfully scanned, the app will show the next screen and guide you to mount and secure your iQ on the windscreen.

If your iQ needs a firmware update, it will start automatically during this setup process. Keep the iQ connected to power and the phone nearby until the update finishes
