You can power your iQ either via the OBD socket (recommended for most users) or by hardwiring it to a fuse box. The camera is designed to mount behind the rear‑view mirror on the passenger side of the windscreen, and the app helps you fine‑tune the position with a live view before you stick it down.
OBD cable vs Hardwire kit
The iQ box includes both an OBD power cable and a hardwire kit.
OBD cable - Plug the OBD cable into your car’s OBD port (under the dashboard, usually near the steering column). This is the easiest, plug‑and‑play option and is recommended if your OBD port is easily accessible.
Hardwire kit - Use this if the OBD port is inconvenient or if you want a completely hidden install. The hardwire cable must be connected to a permanently live fuse (one that stays on even when the ignition is off) so the iQ can use its smart features such as Smart Sense Parking Mode and Live view when the engine is off.
Where to mount the iQ
The iQ is designed to be mounted behind the rear‑view mirror, on the passenger side, near the top of the windscreen.
This keeps the camera out of your main line of sight while still giving a clear view of the road and the cabin.
The iQ app shows a temporary live view during setup so you can adjust the angle and framing before you stick the unit in place.
Installation steps overview
Download the iQ app and connect the iQ to your phone via the QR‑code setup.
Plug the OBD cable into the car’s OBD port and route the cable neatly along the roof or above the dashboard using the tool included in the box.
Use the live view in the app to finalise the position, then peel the adhesive cover and mount the iQ so there is still enough space to remove it from the base plate later if needed.
If you choose to hardwire, connect the hardwire kit to a permanently live fuse, then route the cable and mount the iQ as above.
If you don’t want to fit it yourself
Nextbase offers a professional home or workplace fitting service via partners such as RS Connect.
A trained engineer will visit you and install the iQ, including choosing the best power method and mounting location.
More information and booking options are available on the Home Fitting Standalone page on the Nextbase website.
Once installed and updated, the iQ can begin recording continuously and using its smart features such as Smart Sense Parking Mode and Live view.
