Where your iQ saves videos
All videos are stored on the Micro SD card inside your iQ.
To view the highest‑quality recordings, remove the Micro SD card from the camera and insert it into a computer using an SD card adapter.
Files are stored in the DCIM folder on the SD card.
Which videos go to Nextbase Cloud?
All clips in the 'Events' section of the History tab in the app are automatically uploaded to Nextbase Cloud.
A file becomes an Event when any of the following happens:
The iQ detects an impact.
Smart Sense Parking Mode is triggered by radar and the G‑sensor.
You press the Protect button on the bottom of your iQ.
Automatic cloud upload only works if you have a Protect or Protect Plus subscription.
Uploading other videos to the Cloud
You can also upload non‑event videos:
Go to the Library section of the iQ app.
Select a file to view; opening it will trigger an upload to Nextbase Cloud so you can watch it remotely.
You cannot upload files that were not created by your iQ.
How to read iQ file names on the SD card
Each file in the DCIM folder follows the same naming format so you can see when it was recorded and what type of file it is.
Example filename: 231011_175029_199_FH_RADR
Part | Meaning | Example value | Interpreted as |
Date (YYMMDD) | Recording date | 231011 | 2023, October 11th |
Time (HHMMSS) | Recording time | 175029 | 17:50:29 (5:50:29 pm) |
File number (XXX) | Sequential file counter | 199 | 199th recording |
Camera (F/R/C) | Which camera recorded the file | F | Front camera |
Resolution (H/L) | High or Low resolution | H | High resolution |
Event type | Recording or event category | RADR | Radar‑triggered recording |
So, 231011_175029_199_FH_RADR is the 199th file, recorded on 11 Oct 2023 at 17:50:29, from the front camera, in high resolution, triggered by radar.
How many files does each recording create?
For each recording segment, your iQ creates a high‑ and low‑resolution file for each active camera.
With a front, cabin, and rear camera, this means up to 6 files every 30 seconds.
The two‑letter code after the time and file number shows the camera and quality
File code | Description |
FH | Front Camera – High Resolution |
FL | Front Camera – Low Resolution |
CH | Cabin Camera – High Resolution |
CL | Cabin Camera – Low Resolution |
RH | Rear Window Camera – High Resolution |
RL | Rear Window Camera – Low Resolution |
What are Events?
Events are files that your iQ has marked as important; the table shown below explains what all these file names mean .e.g. "231011_175029_199_FH_RADR". The majority of Event files are protected which will prevent them from being overwritten by newer recordings.
Event Type | Description |
PROT | Manual protection, caused by pressing the protect button. |
IPCT | Accelerometer Protection Event (g-sensor). |
CRSH | Crash Protection Event. An impact large enough to be considered a crash. |
