Motion Sensitivity & Radar Settings On Your iQ

Your Nextbase iQ uses radar sensors in the front and rear cameras to detect movement around your vehicle. In the iQ app you can change how sensitive this radar is, which affects how often it records events and how much power and storage it uses.

What is radar on the iQ?

  • The radar feature detects movement within the sensory field of the front and rear cameras.

  • With both front and rear cameras working together, the iQ can provide full‑vehicle coverage while parked.

  • This is used mainly in SmartSense Parking Mode to trigger security‑event recordings when something happens near your car.

Can I change the motion‑sensitivity settings?

  • Yes, the iQ app lets you adjust the proximity (sensitivity) of the radar in each direction.

  • Higher sensitivity means more motion will trigger recordings; lower sensitivity means fewer, but more obvious, events.

To adjust radar proximity:

  1. Open the iQ app and tap More on the bottom‑right of the home screen.

  2. Select Proximity settings.

  3. In the diagram, touch and drag the blue areas closer to or further from the vehicle to change how far the radar “looks” out.

Dragging the blue area further out makes the radar more sensitive.

How radar sensitivity affects your iQ

  • If the proximity area is large, the radar is more sensitive and may record more events, especially in busy areas like car parks.

  • This uses more power from the car battery and fills up the SD card faster with more motion detection footage.

  • If the proximity area is small, the radar is less sensitive; your iQ will only react to closer or stronger movements, which saves battery and storage.

Quick tips for best settings

  • Busy location (e.g. city street, crowded car park): reduce the blue area to lower sensitivity and avoid constant alerts.

  • Quiet location (e.g. driveway, quiet street): you can increase the blue area slightly to catch more distant events.
