What does the Status in your Nextbase iQ app mean?

This article explains what the Status label in your Nextbase iQ app means and how to interpret the three main states: Online, Security Mode, and Offline.

Updated over a week ago

Where can you see iQ Status?

  • The Status label appears on the Live View page of the iQ app, usually next to your iQ’s name or serial number.

  • It updates automatically as your iQ switches between Driving Mode, Smart Sense Parking Mode, and power‑off states.

What do the different statuses mean?

Status

Description

Online.svg

Online

Your iQ is powered on and recording while the vehicle is running. The camera is connected over 4G, so you can use Live View and most app features. This is the normal state when driving.

Type=Security mode.svg

Security Mode

Your iQ is in Smart Sense Parking Mode. The camera is in a low-power state—not continuously recording, but monitoring for movement using radar and G-sensor. It only records events like impacts or motion, using less power and data.

Offline.svg

Offline

The iQ app cannot contact your iQ. This happens with no 4G signal or when the device has no power (e.g., car battery voltage dropped below Low Power Cut-off, so iQ shut down to protect the battery).

If the status stays Offline for a long time when the car is on and has good signal, check the power connection, reboot the iQ, and make sure the iQ app has the correct permissions.

Extra tips

  • Check the Status label daily when first using your iQ to familiarise yourself with normal state changes.

  • Enable app notifications to get alerts when your iQ goes Offline unexpectedly, helping you spot power issues early.

  • Online status confirms Live View works test it occasionally to verify 4G connectivity.

Troubleshooting

  • Status stuck on Offline when vehicle is running: Verify 4G signal strength on the iQ and your phone, restart the iQ app, then check power cable connections.

  • If security Mode activates while driving: Lower the Smart Sense Parking activation voltage in iQ Settings by 0.1V increments and test during a drive.

  • Online status but Live View fails: Force close/reopen the app, ensure your subscription is active, and confirm the iQ has a signal

  • Frequent Offline in good signal areas: Check Low Power Cut-off settings, test vehicle battery voltage with a multimeter, and inspect OBD/fuse box wiring.

  • Status not updating in app: Log out/in to the iQ app, restart your phone, and ensure background app refresh is enabled for real-time updates.
