How To Update Your iQ Firmware

This article explains why you should keep your iQ firmware up to date and how to install updates either through the Nextbase iQ app or manually using a computer so your Dash Cam stays compatible and runs smoothly.

Updated over a week ago

Why should you update your firmware?

  • Firmware updates add quality‑of‑life improvements and sometimes new features.

  • They help your iQ stay compatible with your phone, app, and other connected devices.

  • Like any smart device that uses the internet, your iQ occasionally needs updates to keep everything working properly.

How to update iQ firmware

You can update your iQ firmware in one of two ways:

  1. Using the Nextbase iQ app

  2. Manually using a Windows PC or Mac

This guide focuses on the app method.

Update using the iQ app

  1. Open the Nextbase iQ app on your phone.

  2. Make sure your iQ Dash Cam is powered on and connected so the app shows the status as “Online” (you can check this on the Live View page).

  3. Tap the iQ Settings tab in the bottom‑right corner.

  4. Tap Firmware update.

  5. The app will check quickly to see whether a new firmware version is available.

    • If no update is needed, the app will confirm this and show the current version number.

    • If a newer version is available, a blue prompt bar will appear; follow the on‑screen steps to download and install the update.

Keep your iQ Dash Cam powered and connected to your phone until the update finishes.

Update manually using a Windows PC or Mac

  1. Visit the iQ support page on our website.

  2. Download the latest firmware version.

  3. Format the SD card inside the computer (using an SD card reader).

  4. Copy the correct file for your camera from the folder that you have downloaded. Please ensure the file is not copied into any folder and the file name has not been changed.

  5. With the Dash Cam turned off, insert the SD card.

  6. Power the iQ in your vehicle and the update should begin automatically with the spanner on the iQ screen.

If the update does not begin automatically then please check the file path and the correct firmware for your model camera has been put onto the SD card.

Troubleshooting

If the update does not start automatically:

  • Check that you copied the correct firmware file for your iQ model.

  • Make sure the file is on the SD card’s main directory, not inside a folder.

  • Make sure the SD Card is inside the camera

  • Confirm that the file name has not been changed.

  • Try formatting the SD card again and repeat the steps.
