How Do I Update My Dash Cam Firmware?

This article walks you through three methods to update your Dash Cam firmware: SD card, Nextbase App, and MyNextbase Player (Series 2 only).

Update using SD card (PC/Mac)

  1. Download latest firmware from your Dash Cam's support page.

  2. Format your SD card on computer.

  3. Copy the .bin file from the Firmware Folder to the root

  4. Insert SD card into powered-off Dash Cam.

  5. Plug in power – update starts automatically.

  6. Ensure the SD card is formatted to remove any existing files before transferring the firmware. This can be done using your computer or the dashcam itself.

  7. Download the firmware files from the official Nextbase website and ensure they are placed in the root directory of the SD card.

Keeping your Nextbase dashcam firmware up to date ensures optimal performance and access to new features. Below are methods and tips for updating your firmware effectively.

Update using Nextbase App

  1. Connect Dash Cam to Nextbase App, this should show as Connected on the Homepage.

  2. Select More.

  3. Select Firmware Update.

  4. Note: The app method may not work if your dashcam is several firmware versions behind. In such cases, use the SD card method.

Update using MyNextbase Player (Series 2 only)

  1. Install MyNextbase Player on computer.

  2. Connect Dash Cam via USB.

  3. Select Firmware Update on Dash Cam.

  4. Click Update Dash Cam in MyNextbase Player.

Extra tips

  • Keep your Dash Cam plugged into stable power supply during updates.

  • Use official Nextbase SD cards for reliable updates.

  • Check your Firmware Version in the app after an update, to make sure it has completed correctly.

Troubleshooting

  • If your update fails, format your SD card and try the update again.

  • If there is no option to update, check that you are using the correct updating method for your device model.

  • If the Firmware update gets stuck mid-update, wait 10 minutes, power cycle if needed.

  • If you don’t have access to a computer to download and transfer firmware files, consider borrowing one from a friend or using a public computer at a library or internet café.
