What is a protected file?
A protected file is a Dash Cam video clip that is locked so it is not overwritten when your SD card becomes full.
The G-Sensor detects movement, vibration or impact, such as bumps, potholes or collisions, to automatically create protected files.
Nextbase Dash Cams create two versions of each front recording:
FH (Front High-Definition) - for detailed viewing.
FL (Front Low-Definition) - for quicker access and transfer.
For rear camera recordings:
RH (Rear High-Definition)
RL (Rear Low-Definition)
F identifies a front camera file and R identifies a rear camera file.
How file protection works
Your 322GW, 422GW, 522GW or 622GW Dash Cam protects files depending on when the protection occurs during the recording:
First third of the file: The current 1-minute file and previous 1-minute file are protected.
Second third of the file: The current 1-minute file is protected.
Last third of the file: The current 1-minute file and next 1-minute file are protected.
How protected files are created
Protected files can be created in four ways:
Manually - initiated by pressing the Protect button.
Automatically - triggered by the G-Sensor in the Dash Cam.
Witness Mode Lite - when Witness Mode is triggered using voice commands, 15 minutes of protected files are created.
Guardian Mode Lite - when the Dash Cam is about to leave the geo-fence or exceed the speed preference, a protected file is created.
Too many protected files
Lower the G-Sensor sensitivity in the Nextbase App.
Check if Witness Mode Lite or Guardian Mode Lite is turned on, as they protect all recordings.
Not enough protected files after incidents
Increase the G-Sensor sensitivity.
Make sure the SD card is working correctly and is the recommended type and size.
Protected files missing
Check if the SD card is nearly full.
Confirm files have not been overwritten due to reaching the protected space limit.
Always back up key clips after any serious incident.
What to expect
Protected files are locked to prevent them from being overwritten when the SD card becomes full.
The files protected around an event depend on when the protection occurs during the current 1-minute recording.
