First Time Connection
Open the Nextbase iQ app on your phone.
Tap the more tab in the bottom-right corner of the app. This may appear as three dots or three lines.
Select iQ settings at the top of the page.
Tap 'Add rear camera' to begin the setup process.
Reconnecting the cables
Remove the iQ dash cam from its mount so you can access the power and rear camera cables.
The dash cam is held in place by four pins. To remove it, hold the base of the camera and slide it upward toward the roof lining.
Once the camera has been removed, unplug both cables from the base of the camera.
Return to the app and tap continue.
The app will now ask you to reconnect the rear camera cable only.
Look for the word rear on the rear camera cable connector.
Insert this cable into the right-hand port on the front iQ dash cam.
Tap continue in the iQ app.
The app will then ask you to reconnect the power cable.
Insert the power cable into the base of the iQ dash cam.
The app will begin checking the rear camera connection.
If the app does not move forward and goes back to the previous page, check the connections and try again.
Checking the Connections
There are two cable connections to check:
The front connection at the dash cam itself. Make sure both cables are firmly secured.- Push the rear camera connector into the front dash cam until you feel or hear a distinct "click" to ensure a secure connection.
The rear connection, which is usually about 30 cm from the rear camera unit and may be tucked behind the roof lining. Check that this connection is secure. It is also recommended to unplug it and reconnect it.- Ensure the in-line connector near the rear camera (about 25–30 cm from the module) is fully pushed together with no visible gap. Insert and twist until you feel or hear a click.
After checking both connections, try the setup steps again in the app.
Firmware Update
If your iQ rear camera is not on the latest firmware, an automatic firmware update will start in the iQ app.
A yellow spanner symbol will appear on your iQ front dash cam.
Please allow up to 10 minutes for the update to complete. A green tick will appear on the front iQ dash cam once the update is successful.
If the update fails, or the spanner symbol does not appear during the process, back up any important files, format the SD card, and try again. If the issue persists, remove the SD card and test the setup without it. If the rear camera image appears, the SD card may be failed or incompatible. Use a U3-rated SD card designed for Dash Cam use.
If your iQ rear camera is already on the latest firmware version, the app should take you to the home page and your rear camera will appear.
If your rear camera has already been set up previously
If your rear camera was previously working but is no longer showing, check the same two cable connections again:
The front connection at the dash cam itself.
The rear connection near the rear camera unit, which may be tucked behind the roof lining.
Once both connections have been checked, try the setup steps again in the app.
Extra Tips
Make sure the iQ stays connected to a suitable power supply throughout the rear camera setup process.
Keep the vehicle switched on during setup so the dash cam does not lose power.
Make sure your iQ app is up to date before trying again.
Remove and reconnect each cable firmly to make sure it is fully seated.
Check that the rear camera cable is connected to the correct port.
Allow a few minutes for the system to detect and confirm the rear camera.
If possible, complete the setup while the vehicle is parked in a stable location with a strong mobile signal.
Check that the camera lens and connectors are clean and free from dust or debris.- Use an alcohol wipe to clean the connectors on the rear camera and cable to remove debris and ensure a solid connection.
Further Troubleshooting
If the rear camera still will not connect, try the following:
Make sure the iQ is showing a stable 4G connection during the update.
Keep the camera powered on while the update is running.
If the update fails repeatedly, format the SD card after backing up any important files, then try again.
Check both ends of the rear camera cable for damage, looseness, or pinching.
Try disconnecting the rear camera cable, waiting a few seconds, and reconnecting it.- Disconnect the rear camera and operate only the front dash cam. If the front unit works reliably without the rear camera but shuts down when the rear camera is connected, the rear camera cable may be faulty. Replace the cable with a known-good one to confirm.
Power cycle the dash cam by switching it off and back on.
If the rear camera still does not appear, reset the dash cam and repeat the setup process.
If possible, try the setup again in a different location in case signal interference is affecting the connection.
