Update the Firmware - 380GW and 380GWX Dash Cam

This article explains how to update the firmware on your Nextbase 380GW or 380GWX Dash Cam using a computer and the supplied USB cable.

When this applies

Use this article when you need to update or reflash the firmware on a 380GW or 380GWX Dash Cam.

Before you begin:

  • Use the USB cable supplied with your Dash Cam.

  • Make sure a microSD card is inserted into the Dash Cam.

  • Make sure the microSD card is empty or formatted to FAT32.

  • Back up any important recordings before formatting the microSD card. Formatting will erase all files stored on the card.

  • Keep the Dash Cam connected to power throughout the firmware update.

Process / information

Put the Dash Cam into update mode

  1. Press and hold the red Protect button marked with an exclamation mark on the Dash Cam.

  2. While holding the Protect button, connect the Dash Cam to your computer using the supplied USB cable.

  3. Release the Protect button when the Wi-Fi button starts flashing blue.

  4. The flashing blue Wi-Fi button confirms that the Dash Cam is in update mode.

  5. If the Dash Cam does not appear as a removable drive on your computer, disconnect it and repeat the steps above.

Open the Dash Cam on your computer

Once the Dash Cam appears as a removable drive:

  1. On Windows, open My Computer. On Mac, open Finder.

  2. Find the drive named NEXTBASE and open it.

  3. You should see the following folders:

    • nextbase.com

    • nextbase.info

    • DCIM

Download and transfer the firmware

  1. Download the latest firmware for the 380GW or 380GWX Dash Cam from the relevant Nextbase support page.

  2. A .zip file will download to your computer.

  3. Open the .zip file and locate the .bin firmware file.

  4. Copy the .bin file directly to the root of the microSD card shown as the NEXTBASE drive.

  5. Do not place the .bin file inside any folder.

  6. Do not rename the .bin file.

  7. Do not copy the compressed .zip file to the microSD card.

  8. Make sure no other files are present on the microSD card.

Complete the firmware update

  1. Safely eject the Dash Cam from your computer using Safely Remove on Windows or Eject on Mac.

  2. Place the Dash Cam back onto its mount.

  3. Make sure the power cable is connected to the mount.

  4. Power the Dash Cam using a charger, not a computer.

  5. The red LED will flash quickly while the firmware update is taking place.

  6. Do not disconnect the Dash Cam from power while the firmware is updating.

  7. When the update is complete, the red LED will stop flashing and the Dash Cam will return to normal operation.

What to expect

During the firmware update, the red LED on the Dash Cam will flash quickly.

Once the update has completed:

  • The red LED will stop flashing.

  • The Dash Cam will return to normal operation.

  • The Dash Cam can be used normally with the updated firmware installed.

Still need help?

If the Dash Cam does not appear as a drive on your computer

  • Try a different USB port on your computer.

  • Try a different USB cable if available.

  • Disconnect the Dash Cam and repeat the steps to enter update mode until the NEXTBASE drive appears.

If the red LED does not flash after transferring the firmware

  • Check that the .bin file is stored directly on the root of the microSD card and not inside a folder.

  • Check that the .bin file has not been renamed.

  • Make sure no other files are present on the microSD card.

  • Back up any important recordings, format the microSD card and copy the firmware file again.
