What is Guardian Mode?
Guardian Mode lets you set speed limits and location boundaries for your vehicle. Your iQ sends notifications when these limits are exceeded, helping you monitor driving by valets, mechanics, or others.
When triggered, Guardian Mode events will appear in the Events tab within the Recording History on the iQ app.
A Protect or Protect Plus subscription is required.
How does Guardian Mode work?
Speed Limit Alerts
Set a maximum speed for your iQ. If it detects faster travel, it sends a notification.
Your iQ waits 5 minutes before sending another speed alert, even if the speed stays high.
The cycle repeats every 5 minutes until the speed drops below your limit.
Location Alerts
Draw a boundary area on the map. Your iQ notifies you when it enters or leaves this area.
Your iQ waits 5 minutes before sending another location alert.
The cycle repeats every 5 minutes if it crosses the boundary again.
How do I enable Guardian Mode?
Open the iQ app.
Tap the More button (three dots or three lines at the bottom right of the app).
Select Guardian Mode.
Toggle Speed alerts and Location alerts on or off individually.
How do I adjust Guardian Mode limits?
Speed Limit Alerts
Toggle Speed Limit Alerts to On.
Press Adjust speed notification limit.
Use the + and - buttons to set your desired speed.
Tap Apply Changes to save.
Location Alert Area
Toggle Location Alerts to On.
Press Adjust Location.
A map appears with a blue circle showing the monitored area around your iQ.
Drag the map to reposition the circle. Pinch to resize it.
Tap Apply Changes when ready.
Your iQ alerts you when entering or leaving this area.
How do I know if Guardian Mode is active?
When enabled, the Guardian Mode icon appears on the iQ app's main landing page. Tap it to jump directly to settings.
Extra tips
Set conservative speed limits (e.g., 5-10 mph above local limits) to catch risky driving without constant alerts.
Test settings by driving near your boundary or slightly over the speed limit to confirm notifications work.
Review Event history in the app to fine-tune sensitivity over time.
Troubleshooting
If no notifications arrive, check that Guardian Mode toggles are on, your subscription is active, and app notifications are enabled on your phone.
If you are unable to adjust Guardian Mode, check that you are logged in using the owner account and not an additional user.
If alerts come too often, increase the speed limit slightly or enlarge the location circle, then test again.
If the location circle does not save, zoom out on the map fully before tapping Apply Changes, then restart the app.
If the Guardian Mode icon does not appear when enabled, force close and reopen the iQ app.
If your iQ shows as offline on the map, ensure it has 4G signal and GPS lock.
