What is Witness Mode?

Witness Mode is a safety feature that lets you share a live video stream from your iQ dash cam with trusted emergency contacts. It is designed to help you feel safer by ensuring that someone you trust can see and follow what is happening in real time.

This feature is available only on Protect and Protect Plus subscriptions.

How does Witness Mode work?

You can start Witness Mode with a simple voice command. When you activate it, your iQ will alert your chosen contacts and start streaming.

  • Say “Hey Dash Cam, Start Witness Mode” to begin.

  • As soon as your iQ hears this command, it sends an email to your selected emergency contact or contacts and starts a live video stream for up to 30 minutes.

  • You can cancel Witness Mode at any time by saying “Hey Dash Cam, Stop Witness Mode”.

How to set up Witness Mode

Follow these steps to set up Witness Mode in the iQ app:

  1. Open the iQ app.

  2. Select the More button (three dots or three lines at the bottom right of the app).

  3. Tap Witness Mode.

  4. Tap Learn More.

  5. Tap Add Emergency Contacts.

  6. Tap Add details on either Emergency Contact 1 or Emergency Contact 2.

  7. Enter the details of your Emergency Contact.

  8. Tap Add Contact.

  9. Repeat Step 6 if you would like to add a second contact.

  10. Tap Send Invites

  11. Tap Finish Setup

Your emergency contact or contacts will receive an email invite. They must accept this invite before they can view any live streams.

Extra tips

  • Choose contacts who are likely to see and act on alerts quickly, such as close family members or friends.

  • Let your contacts know what Witness Mode is and why you have added them, so they recognise the email and accept the invite.

  • You can review or update your emergency contacts in the Witness Mode settings at any time.

Troubleshooting

  • If your contacts say they did not receive an email invite, ask them to check their spam or junk folder.

  • If a contact cannot view the live stream, confirm they accepted the original invite and that they are using the correct email address. The contact will show as Invitation Pending in the Witness Mode section of the app until it has been accepted.

  • If Witness Mode does not start after you use the voice command, make sure voice control is enabled and that your iQ is powered on and connected.

  • If issues continue, try restarting your phone and your iQ, then test Witness Mode again.

  • If the problem persists, contact Nextbase support with your iQ model, app version, and details of what happens when you try to start Witness Mode.
