What is Guardian Mode Lite?

Guardian Mode Lite helps you keep an eye on your vehicle when you are not with it. It lets you set speed and location limits, and records protected video if those limits are broken.

When a limit is exceeded:

  • Your Dash Cam records and saves a protected video file at the moment of the breach

  • The camera sends you a notification in the app when your phone next reconnects

  • If the breach continues, a new protected file is saved every 5 minutes

  • The Dash Cam plays an audible beep to confirm each protected file has been recorded

This helps ensure ongoing footage is preserved for the duration of the event.

How Guardian Mode Lite works

  • Tracks your vehicle’s location and speed

  • Checks if your set geofence (location area) is breached or your speed limit is exceeded

  • Stores the event as a protected video file on the Dash Cam

If you have added emergency contacts, the Dash Cam can notify them when:

  • Your geofence is breached, or

  • Your speed limit is exceeded

How to set up Guardian Mode Lite

  1. Open the Nextbase app on your phone.

  2. Complete the onboarding process if you have not done so already.

  3. From the home screen, tap the Guardian Mode Lite tile.

  4. Set your geofence perimeter (the area around your vehicle you want to monitor).

  5. Set your speed thresholds for alerts.

  6. Confirm and save your settings in the app.

What happens during a breach

When your phone is not connected

  • The Dash Cam records a protected file and saves the event to the SD card.

  • The file is marked so it cannot be overwritten in normal recording.

When your phone is connected

  • You receive an instant notification in the Nextbase app.

  • Example notifications include:

    • “Guardian Mode speed breach”

    • “Guardian Mode location breach”

If the breach continues:

  • The Dash Cam saves a new protected file every 5 minutes until the event ends.

  • You hear an audible beep each time a protected file is recorded.

How to access Guardian Mode Lite files

  1. Open the Nextbase app on your phone.

  2. Tap the Library tab.

  3. Go to Protected Files.

  4. All Guardian Mode Lite videos are stored in this section.

You can then:

  • View the footage

  • Download it to your phone

  • Share it if needed

Extra tips

  • Make sure your SD card has enough free space and is in good condition for recording.

  • Check your geofence size so it covers the right area (for example, your driveway or a car park).

  • Test a low speed breach in a safe area to confirm notifications and protected files work as expected.

Troubleshooting

You are not receiving notifications

  • Check that your phone has notifications enabled for the Nextbase app.

  • Make sure Bluetooth and, if needed, mobile data are turned on.

  • Open the app and confirm Guardian Mode Lite is enabled.

No protected files appear in the app

  • Confirm a breach has actually occurred (speed or location).

  • Check that the SD card is inserted and not full or corrupted.

  • Restart the Dash Cam and your phone, then try again.

The Dash Cam does not beep during a breach

  • Check the Dash Cam volume and alert settings.

  • Ensure the device firmware is up to date.
