Nextbase App Permissions

This article explains which permissions the Nextbase App needs and how to check or change them on your phone.

Recommended permissions

The app works best when you allow the permissions below. This helps your phone stay connected to your Dash Cam and ensures you receive important alerts.

Nearby devices

  • Lets your phone find and connect to your Dash Cam

  • Required for pairing and maintaining a stable connection

Notifications

  • Sends alerts about your Dash Cam, such as connection updates and events

  • Recommended so you do not miss important information

Location

  • Helps your phone connect to your Dash Cam reliably

  • Set to “Always allow” for the most stable connection

App hibernation (Android only)

  • Allows the app to run in the background

  • Helps improve reconnection with your Dash Cam when you reopen the app

Local network (iOS only)

  • Enables a direct Wi‐Fi link between your phone and Dash Cam

  • Needed for video downloads, firmware updates, and setup

  • Brief connect/disconnect/reconnect behavior during Wi-Fi transitions is normal and does not indicate an issue if transfers are functioning correctly.

How to change permissions later

If you have already set up the app and want to adjust permissions, you can do this in your phone settings.

On Android

  1. Open Settings on your phone.

  2. Tap Apps (or Apps & notifications, depending on your device).

  3. Find and tap Nextbase App.

  4. Tap Permissions.

  5. Turn each permission On as needed (Nearby devices, Location, Notifications).

  6. Check any Battery or App hibernation settings and allow the app to run in the background.

On iPhone (iOS)

  1. Open the Settings app on your iPhone.

  2. Scroll down and tap Nextbase.

  3. Check and adjust:

    • Location (set to Always)

    • Local Network

    • Notifications

Extra tips

  • If the app struggles to connect, check Location and Nearby devices (Android) or Local network (iOS) first.

  • If you are not getting alerts, confirm Notifications are allowed and not muted.

  • After changing permissions, reopen the Nextbase App and reconnect to your Dash Cam.- Ensure your dashcam firmware and Nextbase app are updated to the latest versions to avoid persistent issues.

  • Always disconnect from other networks or vehicle systems before connecting to the dash cam.
