What is Emergency SOS?
Emergency SOS (ESOS) is a safety feature that can automatically contact emergency services if you are unresponsive after a serious incident. It uses your Piqo and smartphone to share your location and approved medical details, helping responders reach you faster.
How does Emergency SOS work?
How is a crash detected?
When your Piqo detects a high G-force impact, Emergency SOS activates and the Piqo flashes red and blue. This indicates that the crash detection process has started.
What happens during the 120‑second countdown?
A 120‑second countdown begins, and audio announcements play continuously during this time. You can cancel the countdown at any point using the Piqo button or through the Nextbase app if help is not needed.
What happens when the countdown reaches zero?
If the countdown reaches zero without being cancelled:
An emergency request is sent.
You will be contacted to confirm whether help is required.
If you do not respond, emergency services are dispatched to your location using the details you provided.
How do I set up Emergency SOS?
You can enable Emergency SOS through the Nextbase app in a few simple steps. A Nextbase Protect subscription is required to turn on and use Emergency SOS.
Do I need a smartphone to use Emergency SOS?
Yes, you need a smartphone to use Emergency SOS because it is your phone that contacts the emergency services on your behalf. To use Emergency SOS, your phone must meet these minimum requirements:
Android 10 or later
iOS 15 or later
Is Emergency SOS available in my country?
Emergency SOS is not available in every region. To check if it is supported in your country, see this article: Where is Emergency SOS available?
What important details should I know?
The countdown will stop automatically if either of the following happens:
Your Piqo moves more than 50 metres from the crash site.
Your phone moves more than 20 steps away from the crash site.
Extra tips
Make sure Bluetooth and location services are enabled on your smartphone so Emergency SOS can work correctly.
Keep your medical and contact details up to date in the app so emergency services receive accurate information.
Test that your phone and Piqo stay connected during normal driving so you know the setup is reliable.
Troubleshooting
If Emergency SOS does not appear in the app, check you have an active Nextbase Protect subscription and that your app is up to date.
If the countdown does not start after a significant impact, check that ESOS is enabled in the app and that your phone is paired with Piqo.
If you do not receive a follow‑up contact after a test event, confirm that your phone has mobile coverage and correct contact details set in the app.
