When you first use the Nextbase app and setup your Dash Cam, Nextbase will request access to certain device permissions in order for the app and Dash Cam to function.
Bluetooth
In order for the Dash Cam to connect to the Nextbase app we use Bluetooth. Enabling this permission will allow you to access footage from your camera and enable features such as Guardian Mode Lite. Without enabling this permission you will not be able to access your Dash Cam footage in the Nextbase app.
Notifications
Enabling this will allow Nextbase to send you push notifications and prompts related to your Dash Cam features. For example, when Emergency SOS is activated and triggered we’ll send you a notification at each stage of the process.
Location
Accepting this permission will allow Nextbase to use your device’s location to provide you with information and services, this will include ensuring you're provided with the correct features for your location. We also use this on features such as Emergency SOS so that we can notify emergency services of your location.
Note: Some Android users may have to enable both Bluetooth and Location permissions in order for Bluetooth connection with the Nextbase app to work. This is due to some applications using Bluetooth to track location.
Location Services
Granting permission for location services allows the Nextbase app to determine your location.
All of these permissions can be managed at any time in your phone setting by following the below instructions:
- Open Settings
- Tap Apps
- Tap the Nextbase app
- Tap Permissions
- To change a permission setting, tap it, then choose Allow or Don’t allow
Local Network Permission (iOS only)
The first time you create a Wi-Fi connection between your Dash Cam and the Nextbase app if you are using an iPhone you will be asked to grant Local Network Permission. This allows a direct Wi-Fi connection to be created with your Dash Cam so that you can download videos, update firmware or access setup view.
If you are experiencing problems with Wi-Fi connectivity follow the below steps to ensure you have granted the Nextbase app Local Network Permission.
- Open Settings
- Tap Apps
- Tap the Nextbase app
- Tap Permissions
- Ensure that Local Network Permission is set to allow
- If Local Network Permission does not appear, try connecting to your Dash Cam Wi-Fi to prompt the permission to be granted
