Why Can't My Dash Cam Connect With Apple CarPlay?

Wireless Apple CarPlay and your Nextbase Dash Cam both use your iPhone's Wi-Fi, but iPhones connect to only one Wi-Fi network at a time, preventing simultaneous connections.

Updated over a week ago

Why does this happen?

  • Wireless CarPlay uses Wi-Fi + Bluetooth to connect your iPhone to your car.

  • Your Dash Cam also needs Wi-Fi to connect to the Nextbase app.

  • Your iPhone can only connect to one Wi-Fi device at a time.

This means your Dash Cam app won’t connect until you temporarily turn off CarPlay.

How do I temporarily disable CarPlay?

  1. On iPhone, go to Settings > General > CarPlay.

  2. Select your car from the list.

  3. Tap Forget This Car – this disconnects wireless CarPlay.

  4. Now connect to your Dash Cam's Wi-Fi network via the Nextbase app.

Your iPhone will now disconnect from wireless CarPlay, letting you join your Dash Cam’s Wi-Fi network.

Reconnecting CarPlay after you’re done

  1. On your iPhone, plug into the car with USB (or reconnect wirelessly if supported).

  2. CarPlay will set up again automatically.

Extra tips

  • Use a wired USB connection for CarPlay if your car supports it. This frees up your iPhone's Wi-Fi for the Dash Cam app without conflicts.

  • Connect to your Dash Cam first during setup or app use, then switch to CarPlay only when needed.

  • Check your iPhone's Bluetooth settings too – turn off car Bluetooth temporarily if Wi-Fi alone does not resolve the issue.

  • Make sure the Nextbase App is up to date.

Troubleshooting

  • If this still wont connect after forgetting CarPlay, restart your iPhone, reopen the Nextbase app, and try joining the Dash Cam's Wi-Fi network again.

  • If you are experiencing frequent dropouts during use, move your iPhone closer to the Dash Cam and ensure no other Wi-Fi devices are interfering.

  • Issue persists on iOS updates: Check Apple's support site for CarPlay changes, update the Nextbase app, and contact Nextbase support with your iPhone model, iOS version, and car details.
