What power options can I use?
To use Smart Parking, Piqo must be connected to a permanent power source using either:
Piqo Pro Install Cable (Hardwire Kit)
Quick Connect OBD Cable
If you do not use Smart Parking, you can use either:
12V Power Cable (plugs into your vehicle’s socket), or
Piqo Pro Install Cable connected to an ignition fuse (Piqo only powers on when your car is on).
Note: A permanent power source does not mean your Dash Cam records all the time. It only activates when needed for Smart Parking events.
Some vehicles will have a permanently supplied 12V port, if the Piqo remains powered on when the ignition of your vehicle is turned off, then Smart Parking can be activated.
How does Piqo protect my car battery?
The Piqo Pro Install Cable includes built‑in battery protection.
It automatically cuts power if your car’s battery drops below 11.6V, so the Dash Cam will not drain it to the point your car will not start.
Can my car battery still go flat?
All car batteries slowly discharge over time, even if no Dash Cam is installed.
If your car is not driven for a long period, the battery can still run low naturally.
To help avoid problems:
Drive regularly to keep your battery charged.
If you plan to leave your car parked for more than a week and Piqo is connected to a permanent power source, unplug the Dash Cam or remove power to it.
How long does it take for the battery to run low?
Exact times vary between vehicles, because each car has its own Battery Management System (BMS). For specific figures, check with your vehicle manufacturer.
Typical figures are:
A modern car uses around 50–85mAh with the engine off (before adding extra devices).
Piqo Dash Cam while recording: approximately 500mA.
Peak draw while downloading footage: approximately 800mA.
Because of this, very long periods without driving can still reduce your battery level, even with built‑in protection.
Extra tips
Keep your Piqo firmware up to date so you have the latest improvements.
Route cables away from tight bends and pinch points to avoid damage that could cause intermittent power issues.
If your vehicle is often parked for long periods, consider using a battery maintainer or having a professional check your battery health.
Troubleshooting
If Piqo turns off unexpectedly, the Pro Install Cable’s battery protection may be cutting power because voltage is low. Start the engine and allow the battery to recharge.
If Piqo does not power on, check that the cable is firmly connected at both the Dash Cam and vehicle end, and check the fuse (for hardwired installs) or 12V socket.
If your car battery seems to go flat quickly, temporarily disconnect Piqo for a few days. If the issue continues, the cause is likely the battery itself or another device.
If Smart Parking is not working, make sure Piqo is connected to a permanent power source (Pro Install Cable or Quick Connect OBD Cable), not only to the 12V Power Cable from the box.
