How Do I Install My Piqo Dash Cam With The Piqo Pro Install Cable?

This article walks you through installing your Piqo Dash Cam using the Piqo Pro Install Cable and explains the difference between using a permanent live fuse and an ignition fuse.

Updated over 2 weeks ago

What will I need?

  • Piqo Pro Install Cable with fuse tap attachment

  • Access to a permanent live fuse or ignition fuse in your vehicle

  • Basic tools such as a screwdriver and trim tool

How do I install the Piqo Pro Install Cable?

  1. Locate your vehicle’s fuse box using your vehicle handbook as a guide.

  2. Choose a fuse:

    • Permanent live fuse: powers the Dash Cam at all times and allows the use of Smart Parking.

    • Ignition fuse: powers the Dash Cam only when the car is on.

  3. Remove the chosen fuse from your fuse box and insert it into the fuse tap on the Piqo Pro Install Cable.

  4. Insert the fuse tap into the slot you removed the original fuse from.

  5. Connect the Piqo power cable to the Dash Cam.

  6. Attach the ground wire from the Pro Install Cable securely to a bare metal point on the vehicle chassis.

  7. Test the Dash Cam by turning the ignition on and off to check it powers correctly.

  8. Tuck the cable neatly behind trim panels using a trim tool, keeping it clear of airbags and moving parts.

  9. Complete a final check to confirm the Dash Cam powers as expected and records normally.

Should I use a permanent fuse or an ignition fuse?

A permanent live fuse provides power even when the ignition is off. This allows Smart Parking to work, because the Dash Cam can remain powered when the car is parked. When using a permanent live fuse, make sure Smart Parking is turned on in your Dash Cam settings.

An ignition fuse only provides power when the ignition is on. This does not allow Smart Parking, but it does mean the Dash Cam will switch off when you turn off the car.

Extra tips

  • The Pro Install Cable has a built‑in cut‑off at 11.6V to help protect your car battery.

  • Use a fuse with a maximum rating of 15A for the safest and most reliable connection.

  • Do not run cables over or in front of airbag areas, especially along the A‑pillar.

  • If you are unsure about any step, speak to a professional installer or an auto electrician.

Troubleshooting

  • If the Dash Cam does not power on, check the fuse tap is fully seated, the fuse is not blown, and the ground wire is attached to clean bare metal.

  • If the Dash Cam only turns on with the ignition when you expected Smart Parking, you may have used an ignition fuse instead of a permanent live fuse.

  • If the camera restarts or behaves unpredictably, recheck all connections and try a different suitable fuse slot if needed.

  • If you are not confident working with your vehicle’s electrics, stop and contact a professional installer.
